New Interpretive Ranger Sam Pettit

Hey! I’m Sam Pettit, the new Interpretive Ranger at the Environmental Learning Center. I am originally from New York and moved to South Carolina in 2012. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Coastal Ecology and Conservation. I participated as a volunteer in Hunting Island’s Sea Turtle Conservation Project, which ultimately steered me down my current path of interpretation. In September 2016, I started working at Hunting Island State Park as the Nature Center Specialist. While in that position, some of my responsibilities included animal care and interpretive/outreach programs. I have grown an appreciation and love for all reptiles. In the fall, I will take the Lowcountry Master Naturalist course to expand my knowledge. In my time in the park service, my favorite part of my job is talking to people and educating them. I look forward to meeting everyone! See you around in Edisto.
